The massive influx of patients is straining not just medical wards, but also supporting hospital facilities. Volunteers perform non-patient-facing activities at New-York-Presbyterian hospitals, including serving food/meals to hospital staff (not patients), cleaning common areas, and/or folding and distributing clean scrubs.

Project Summary
With more than 70 volunteers participating in this project, we were able to provide critical support to four NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP) hospitals and two field hospitals over the course of more than two months. To reduce the risk of healthcare workers leaving the hospital with contaminated scrubs, NYP began providing clean scrubs to all staff – which required new systems and personnel to fold, organize, and distribute these scrubs on-site. That’s where our amazing volunteers came in! Frequently staffing distribution tables 24/7, our volunteers filled a critical gap during the most intense phase of the pandemic, giving NYP time to hire workers to fill these positions into the future. Check out this blog post by Paula Croxon for a recap of the project and interviews with some of our dedicated volunteers. Also check out this article! This project wouldn’t have been possible without the tight partnership formed with local liaisons at each NYP hospital. A special thanks to the Scheduling, Hospital, and Safety Managers – all CRAC Team Volunteers – who helped keep our volunteers safe and ensured the whole process ran smoothly.
