Another day, another whole lot of developments. Over the last day and a half, we have been building out our organization to scale up for new challenges and projects. As a part of this effort, we are welcoming our new Data Manager Amanda Decker and administrator Isabel Goncalves, who will both keep us organized, and our new Safety Manager Sebastian Theilenberg who will make sure that we don’t give ourselves COVID-19. We also have brought on Ana Pinharanda as the new manager of Project #3, which was startled out of hibernation.
Professor Ken Olive, who has put countless hours into this organization, is taking a step back from day to day management to focus on his other commitments, as he has a lab to run and kids to homeschool. We thank him for picking great people and getting this whole organization off the ground.
The biggest change that we have made to our organization is that we now have a new Project Development Team under the lead of Majorie Xie.
Projects have so far mainly been based on issues and needs brought to us by faculty members and administrators. Now, we're ready for your ideas. What do you think will help our community to make it through the next weeks and months? What promising approaches have people taken elsewhere? What available skills and equipment can we bring to new use?
Enter your proposal here. The more well-thought-out a proposal is, the easier it will be to evaluate and implement.
Marjorie and her team will evaluate these proposals to make sure they are useful, feasible and safe to implement and aren’t already being realised by another entity. If you would like to help evaluate ideas and proactively solicit them, we are looking for members of that committee too- apply here.
Finally, we are looking for more members of the biobanking team (project 4). This requires familiarity with human sample processing and BSL2+ procedures, along with certain RASCAL certifications. See the other email we sent or the signup form for full description
To summarize all our open positions, we are also looking for the following people:
For a full outline of everyone and their positions, feel free to peruse our website.
And this is what else happened in the last 24 hours:
Project #1 (IRB data management): Howie and his team now have a good overview of what infrastructure they need to build and have started implementation
Project #3 (mask sterilization): We are back on! Under the new lead of Ana Pinharanda we are going to help CUIMC design and implement a workflow to get those masks clean
Project #4 (Biobanking): Alvaro and his team started processing samples for the biobank yesterday and should have an operation of 10 volunteers up and running by the middle of next week. See call for more volunteers above!
Project #5 (Rapid response team): Fei and her team are in close contact with VP&S about expanding the capacities of back-up freezers. Next stops: incubators and securing supply of gas cylinders
With the organizational backbones in place, we are now ready for your proposals and more and more volunteers in scientific projects. We have 300+ of you on this email list, are starting to expand beyond and are hoping to get this small science army deployed in the next days and weeks. We look forward to hearing your ideas and having you join the team!
