Our team is responsible for identifying all ongoing efforts in Columbia laboratories (at CUIMC, Morningside Campus & ZMBBI) involving COVID-19–related projects (diagnostic, clinical, basic research, engineering, etc.) and compiling a database of this information in close collaboration with CUIT. The goal of this project is to build a database that can:
We, along with our CUIT partners and help of RLCC+, are working on:
As the effort progresses, the team could also contribute by helping to identify any needs or obstacles that the COVID-19 researchers are experiencing that might be alleviated by CRAC volunteers or other members of the Columbia community.
- Act as a central, search- and browse- friendly data hub for all COVID19 related activities at CU. The hub will be a listing of all active and completed projects (research and non-research) and some planned projects. Accessible data will include project description and personnel. The database is now live to admin, faculty, officers of research, and officers of instruction. We are expanding access to students soon.
- Identify potential collaborative efforts across teams/labs and organizations. For example, law students/faculty interested in participating in COVID19 related work can look for potential opportunities that are actively seeking collaborators / volunteers.
- Define underrepresented areas in need of being addressed and avoid the duplication of efforts.
We, along with our CUIT partners and help of RLCC+, are working on:
- Continuously update the database as data comes in
- Add additional functionalities to the search function (e.g. fuzzy matching)
- Add additional functionalities to the database (e.g. allow expertise-matching)
As the effort progresses, the team could also contribute by helping to identify any needs or obstacles that the COVID-19 researchers are experiencing that might be alleviated by CRAC volunteers or other members of the Columbia community.
Team
Manager: Haotian (“Howie”) Wu and Maryam Haghighiabyaneh
Volunteers: Aubrianna Decker, Helene Lacaille, Ranqin Lan, Melissa Lee, Matt Mackenzie, Ben Rudshteyn & Rachel Starr
Project Summary
As a global leader in STEM, health sciences, and medicine, Columbia University affiliated researchers, doctors, and students alike initiated hundreds of projects to address the pandemic, seeking to not only address the scientific questions, but also social, legal, and logistical challenges brought on by these unprecedented events. For this project, CRAC was asked to join a team along with CUIT and senior leadership across every CU campus and institution to create a user-populated resource for COVID-related projects within COlumbia. The idea is that students and researchers alike can browse or search COVID related projects and make connections with colleagues whose work and interest mirror your own. From an administrative point of view, this database will help with administrative oversight, coordination, outreach, communications, and fundraising. Our amazing CRAC team on this worked with our CUIT and leadership partners to collect and manage the data. But enough talk! You can see the database (COVID Hub) for yourself here: https://research.columbia.edu/covid/covidhub.
